I’ve had a lot of custom client consults lately, which I’m very thankful for and very excited about! I really do love being able to help my clients bring their vision to life. Your wedding invitations are the more important invitations you’ll ever send (unless you become President – that’s a pretty big deal too), so you should feel confident in your designer’s skills and willingness to accommodate your needs.
I recently interviewed myself to help answer a few of those burning questions for you!
1. How long have you been in business?
Officially the Dear LC brand launched in December 2011 – but I’ve been designing wedding invitations unofficially since 2007.
2. What is your design background?
I studied graphic design both as an undergrad and a graduate student – but my education did not and will not stop there. I take graphic design classes periodically throughout the year to keep my mind fresh and I’m constantly looking at the latest trends and researching designers I admire to ensure that my clients are getting my very best work.
3. What types of printing processes do you offer? Is your printing done in-house or do you outsource the printing?
Flat printed, letterpress, thermography, and foil-stamping are the printing processes my clients choose most frequently. A majority of my printing is outsourced to ensure that my clients receive the highest quality papers, inks and print-quality. There are a lot of resources out there that say there are more benefits to working with a designer who prints in-house. I disagree. In fact, my lead-times are shorter and my prices are much better now that I work with professional printers. I’m also able to offer a wider range of services and paper stocks.
4. Do you offer custom invitations as well as templated styles?
Yes. I offer the Dear LC Wedding Collection (with new designs to be introduced shortly!!) but I also take on a number of custom clients throughout the year as well.
5. If I choose a custom wedding invitations, what are my options for color, paper type, ink and fonts?
The sky is the limit. These are your invitations, shouldn’t they be exactly what you want? I have a standard set of paper stock, colors and fonts I work with most frequently but that certainly doesn’t mean you’re limited to those. Each client is different and I work with each couple to make sure all of their needs are met.
6. Can I also order my table numbers, place cards, escort cards, ceremony programs, menus, etc. from you?
You bet! When I’m working with a client I often tell them “if it can be printed on paper, I can do it”. But I really offer much more than that: matchbook covers, custom coasters, drink stirrers, custom printed napkins, iPhone cases. If you’ve got something in mind I’d love to help you bring it to life!
7. Based on the paper I select and the number of pieces involved, what would it cost to mail my wedding invitation?
I’ve very rarely had a wedding invitation suite weigh more than 2 ounces – so a $0.66 stamp will cover a majority of the suites I design. However, as I’m working with a client I will advise them in advance if an option they’ve chosen will be well received by the Post Office or not.
8. Once I place my order, how long will it take to have the completed invitations delivered? Do you have rush-order available?
Typically 2-3 weeks for flat-printed invitations. If you’ve chosen another service the lead-time is 3-5 weeks on average. Rush services are available! I know invitations can be one of those things that just sneaks up on you!
9. If the invitation involves multiple pieces, can you assemble them? How will the assembly affect my delivery date?
Of course! Assembly won’t affect your delivery date at all. For really busy clients, I’ve even dropped their invitations in the mail for them! If there’s a service I can offer you, I’m happy to help. I want the invitation process to be as easy and stress-free for you as possible.
10. Do you offer an invitation addressing service?
Absolutely! Dear LC offers a few different options for addressing services. Digitally printed return and guest addressing services are available to all of my clients. Having the addressing done for you can save a lot of time! Most recently I’ve teamed up with Megan Chapin Calligraphy to offer hand-lettered calligraphy to my clients. It’s stunning and makes a real impression!
