Did you know January is National Thank You Note Month? Truthfully, I didn’t either but it makes sense. A little gratitude is a great way to start off the new year. For those of you who got married in 2018, now is the perfect time to set a New Year’s resolution to get your wedding thank you cards in the mail.
It can be overwhelming to look at that stack of thank you cards after a whirlwind year of wedding planning and celebrating. What’s more overwhelming is trying to figure out what to write! To help you out I have a simple formula for writing the perfect thank you note and I’m going to share it with you.
The beauty of a handwritten note is its personality: be sincere, but also, be yourself. Let your writing reflect your personality. It doesn’t have to be complicated or super formal; your guests will appreciate that you took the time to express your gratitude. So let’s get started!
Here’s my simple formula for writing the perfect wedding thank you note:
- Thank your guest/gift giver for their generosity, kindness, and/or thoughtfulness being sure to specifically mention the gift you received.
Thank you so much for the beautiful Waterford wine glasses.
- Mention why the gift was special or how you plan to use it.
John and I are looking forward to hosting our first holiday dinner and raising a glass to you!
- Let them know how important it was to you that they attended your wedding.
It really meant so much to both of us that you were able to join us for our big day. We loved being able to celebrate with our family and friends.
- Thank them again and include a personal send off.
Thank you again! We look forward to seeing you soon,
There you have it! A simple and easy way to thank your wedding guests. Now get those thank you notes in the mail!
Thank You Note Tip: Every time I write a note by hand I misspell a word or make a mistake. I like to type out what I’m going to say first and then write it down. Yes, this is an extra step – but it will save you a few wasted thank you cards!
